Although, one thing that you should, note about flowers is that each of these has its unique requirements. Considering this, the plants that you have in your garden will require you to keep them maintained. Without this, the flowers get dry and start to wither. Talking about this, vinca is one of the best plants that people decide to plant in their gardens.

This requires next to no maintenance which can be amazing. This includes the plant requiring low nutrients and it is surviving even if you put it under complete shade. Vinca is also water-resistant which means that it can stay healthy even if you forget to water it.

With that being said, people often ask some questions regarding these flowers. One common query is “Do hummingbirds like vinca?”, if you are also wondering about this then going through this article should help you in understanding all about it.

Do Hummingbirds Like Vinca?

Simply answering the question “Do hummingbirds like vinca?”, the answer is yes but there are some additional things that you need to keep in mind. There are tons of factors that can make hummingbirds like a flower. In most cases, you will notice that these birds will come to your garden on their own if there are vincas planted. However, if you are having trouble attracting hummingbirds then keep these factors in mind. First of all, these birds are cautious of their territory which is why they need a secure place.

If they don’t feel safe in your garden, then there is a high chance that they will avoid coming near it. Additionally, if another hummingbird is already visiting then others will stay away from it. This is why you should place your feeding station at a distance from each other. Instead of making it a single large station, you can split it into several small ones.

These can be placed about 6 feet apart from each other so that multiple hummingbirds can take the nectar from these plants. Talking about this, another way to attract the birds is by using small containers. Instead of planting the vinca directly into the ground, you can place them in ports. These can then be hung near different areas of your house where you want the hummingbirds to come. Make sure that these are in a spot where the birds can notice them.

They will come closer automatically to observe the vinca and then take nectar from it. Another amazing thing about vinca is that it can also survive if you put it under shade. Considering this, you can also invite the hummingbirds under shade by placing the plants in a viable location. Make sure that you keep the flowers maintained as this is necessary to get sugar and nectar.

Sometimes even if you have placed the plants correctly, not having any nectar can keep hummingbirds away. Luckily, it is quite easy to keep vincas healthy as you only have to keep the soil around them moist. Most of the nutrients required by these flowers are taken from the soil you plant them in. If you notice that the soil is too weak then you can also use fertilizers to make it full of nutrients.

Why Attract Hummingbirds?

Now that you understand that hummingbirds like vinca and how the birds can be attracted more to the plant. Some people might wonder why this is important, when it comes to this you should note that the process is beneficial for both the plant as well as the bird. The main reason for this is that flowers like vinca produce nectar that hummingbirds enjoy consuming.

On the other hand, when these birds are drinking nectar, the pollen from these flowers will stick to their feet and then get dropped over other plants. This helps in spreading the plant all around your garden quickly which makes it look beautiful. The new flowers that you get can sometimes be vincas, but you should note that this is not necessary. The main reason for this is that the pollen can sometimes fall in another flower or it might have been taken from some other.

  1. Thank you. I found a very tiny hummer feeding from a solid white vinca, 2 nights in a row! After dark…

I have numerous feeders, several varieties/colors of Salvia, Pentas, and others… but, the white vinca? I was stumped.
Never seen any hummer feed there or clearly prefer the vinca!

Hoping to get a video tonight so others can help me ID it. I thought it might be a Hummingbird Moth, but it clearly had a long beak and no antenna. It’s body was maybe 2” long, not much longer. Wingspan no more than 2” because it flew through the dog fence, numerous times.

I live in S. Texas, zone 9A. It would make more sense if I were in 9B…

    Crazy stuff, but very exciting!
