Once your engine is on the compression stroke, you will need to force the air into the combustion chamber. An air compressor will come in handy for this purpose.
There should be no air leak when you force air into the combustion chamber. If air escapes, you will hear the leakage sound. If there is something wrong with the intake valves, you will hear the sound of air leaking through the intake.
Similarly, if the exhaust valves are problematic, you will hear the sound coming from the tailpipe.
On the other hand, if piston rings are worn-out, the leakage sound can be heard from the engine oil cap. And yes, do not forget to remove the engine oil cap.

I have a case MX 135 and the forward motion has very little movement . The forward solenoid was replaced and did not help, reverse and PTO work fine and the engine runs fine. I can hear the clocking of 1,2,3 and four gears, but very little forward movement. It all started when hydraulic light came on on my dash, I replaced the hydraulic filter, no help. I cut hydraulic filter in 2 to check for clutch pack filaments and none found. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you
