Cucumbers are truly thirsty plants, and watering them is key for their good growth. Mature cucumbers are made up of 80 to 90 percent Water hence it makes sense that they require much Water during the growing period. Big leaves and the high Water content in the fruits forces cucumbers to require big amounts of Water.
For the best cucumbers, matter to get the Water correctly.
How to Water Cucumber Plants
Generally, Pumpkin Plants require around one inch of Water weekly. Cucumbers follow the same rule. This amount of one inch per week forms a good target.
Even so during warm periods or drought, cucumbers require more Water. In times of extreme heat and low humidity, maybe need to Water every day. Colder and cloudy days reduce the need for Water.
Watering cucumbers forms usual work for every farmer of them. When the middle of summer arrives, almost all serious growers must provide Water to the plants regularly and without pause. Usually one chooses the sunniest place for growth, because Water one can ensure by means of irrigation.
Whether the roots are shallow or deep does not matter, if irrigation is available.
Here, where one waters manually or uses drip tubes in standard soil, it is enough to Water every second or third day by means of around 3 liters each time. Sandy soil changes the situation a bit. Setup with soaker-tubes can give around 10 liters a day during two hours, and some growers lay extra tubes at the base for more Water.
In clay soil it works well, but in well drained soil maybe require even more. Huge cucumber types usually require watering daily. A normal cucumber plant in good conditions consumes around 16 liters of Water per weak.
Morning watering one considers the best. That counts not only for cucumbers, but for all crops. Early watering helps plants last the afternoon and stay healthy and strong.
It is better to Water deeply than often and lightly. It works great to give a solid soaking during dry days instead of a little daily. Without rain, slow deep soaking all 7 to 10 days can be enough, until the Water forms a light layer on the surface.
Cucumber leaves commonly wilt in midday, and that is entirely normal. But if the plants wilt already early in the morning, that shows that they require more Water. Checking them during cooler time helps to spot the difference.
Watching the weather forecast and the ground dryness helps to plan the right rhythm, instead of following a strict timetable, which could cause too much or too little Water. Most of the Water that roots absorb ultimately goes into thecucumber itself or is lost through the leaves, while they take sunshine.
