Marigold need the right amount of Water for good flower during the whole season. If you give too much or too little, that can hurt them. Young Marigold need a wet area for good germination so ground moisture during the first one to two weeks after planting are important.
This helps them form strong roots.
How to Water Marigolds
After they already settled, Marigold a bit handle lack of rain. They will not suffer a lot if they miss one or two waterings. Even so they yet need regular drinks.
Use general advice of one inch of Water in week, although some books mention that 1.5 to 2 inches in week works well. Everything depends on the conditions.
Water lightly twice daily, around the 7th in the morning and the 5th evening. This keeps the ground wet through the day, especially when the plants receive the needed six hours of sunlight. Time of watering also matters.
Mornings and evenings are ideal moments for Water, because cool temperatures slow drying.
Potted Marigold dry the most quickly. For little pots of around four to eight inches, Water once day in warm weather, what is usual. All two to three days work for gentle climate.
Big pots need watering all two to three days during heat and all three to seven days in cold conditions. While peak of summer, sometimes potted Marigold need Water twice day.
Type of ground matters a lot. Sandy ground drains quickly and needs more watering. Heavy clay ground keeps Water more long, so less common watering helps to escape too much moisture.
Between waterings the ground should dry a bit. Marigold do not like wet roots. Well drained ground is needed for healthy growth and good flowering.
Direct sun speeds drying, what needs more watering. Marigold need full sun, at least six hours of it. Partial sunshine does not work for them.
They are not truly indoor plants.
Humidity can be tricky. Too much dryness in the air can bring fungal diseases as powdery mildew. Good flow of air helps too preserve the leaves dry and stop diseases.
Escape Water on the leaves, because that also causes fungal problems. Keeping unwanted grasses low around the plants is another useful tip.
Practical trick for potted Marigold are the weight test. Lift the pot when the ground is dry, to feel how much it weighs. Wet ground makes it heavier, so if the pot feels light, Water.
Marigold are fairly strong. Even if watering is late by one day, they can a bit wilt but should quickly recover after a drink. Extra feeding by means of Water basin works well for potted Marigold withgood drain holes.
Indoor sprouts should be hardened outside during week or two before moving out. Keep the young plants wet until they settle, to give them the best start.
