What you end spending for landscaping cost genuinely depends on that, what you plan to do later. Simple cleaning of the yard could cost you less than 100 dollars but if you redo your whole back garden and add a built-in pool? That easily passes 100 000 dollars or even more.
Most folks end up picking something in that middle range… Typical project costs around 8 500 dollars, although the listed prices range widely between 2 000 and 25 000 dollars, when one considers the size of the garden, the design choices and materials like natural stone.
How Much Landscaping Costs and What Affects the Price
When dealing about the work, you must consider hourly payments, that usually fall between 50 and 100 dollars. This counts for the whole team working on your yard, not only one person. The place matters very much here.
In big cities one commonly asks more than in rural regions, teams in Salt Lake City can require 65 dollars per person-hour, before adding travel or markups for materials. Go to Idaho or New Mexico, and the middle pirces start close to 36 dollars. What about Wisconsin and New York?
Here everything is pretty expensive.
Here is the cause, running a landscaping business is not cheap. We talk about six-figure amounts only for utilities, insurance and those heavy trucks, that pull wood chippers around. Tree workers especially must pay the most serious insurance fees.
So, when listed prices seem high, recall, that a big part of that hourly rate goes directly to covering the expenses.
Most projects split to between 4,50 and 12 dollars per square foot. If everything gets tricky, you could reach up to 40 dollars per square foot. On average, everything hovers around 11 or 12 dollars per square foot.
For a smaller garden, say 900 square feet; one usually quotes 15 to 19 dollars per square foot. Own hand work with very little budget can happen four under 2 000 dollars, but for genuinely fancy results? That gets closer to 40 000 dollars.
Individual items genuinely add up quickly. Flowers cost from 5 to 25 dollars each unit. Bushes start at around 25 dollars and go to 50.
Trees are more expensive, somewhere from 120 to 500 dollars based on the size. Only putting in sprinklers can reach 6 000 dollars. Add drainage and leveling, and you have around 6 110 dollars.
A paved way could cost around 10 000 dollars, while a French drain costs close to 5 000 dollars.
The design work also varies a lot. Basic advice costs 300 to 800 dollars. More detailed design service jumps to 1 500 to 5 000 dollars.
Planning ranges from 500 dollars for simple advice to more than 10 000 dollars for complex cases. In New York, backyard projects include scope, coaxing, demolition, fence, electrical setups and structures. One quote in Las Vegas reached 17 000 dollars.
Always ask for several quotes, the same task can have very different prices. For a 200-square-foot front garden one got quotes of 1 870 and 550 dollars. Quality beats projects, and a mid-price quote or a bit above it usually is the good balance.
A solo gardener could cost 75 to 250 dollars. Use this as a guide: plan 10 to 15 percent of the value ofyour home for landscaping cost.
