💡 Tip 1: Always measure height to the top board. For feather edge and closeboard fencing, the height includes any capping rail or gravel board. Add these surfaces separately for best accuracy.
💡 Tip 2: Rough or weathered wood needs significantly more paint. Aged timber that has dried out is highly absorbent — apply a sealer or stabilising primer first, then factor in at least 15–20% extra on your paint quantity to avoid running short.

Garden fence paint helps to quickly give the garden a fresh and well cared look, while ensuring long lasting defence for the wood. That method protects against moisture, sunlight and wear. Wood naturally grips so if one leaves it dirty, it sucks water, swells and ultimately ages.

A fence, painted, acts as a shield against rain, cold, sun and even insects.

How to Paint and Protect Your Garden Fence

Specially prepared fence paint preserves wood against wear. It stops rot and decay, while it extends the lifespan of the fence panels. Some products offer defence up to five years and come in various colours.

A new coat of paint can well agree with the style of the garden and unify the wholelocation.

To paint fresh fence panels, simply rub them clean and cover parts that do not need to touch, for instance posts or doors. Tape for painters or old newspaper works for that task. Covering the soil with protective sheets, one escapes marks.

Choose a dry day, not too damp ore warm. Expect two days of good weather before start… That is wise advice, so that the fence can be quite a lot dry.

Latex paints work well for fences. Oil-based paints commonly last more long, but their cleanup requires strong solvents and more effort. Even so, such paints dry more slowly.

Colour stain forms an alternative, it never peels and still defends the wood, while allowing that the wood grain shows. Cuprinol Garden Shades seem nice even after three years. Cheap fence paints usually are too thin, so they require three to four coats, but prime brands like Cuprinol end the work with one or two coats.

The shade of colour matters more than many folks believe. Dark grey creates a nice base for crops, because such shades fade in the landscape. Light grey can seem weak in the outside.

Dark green or dark tones help that the fence blends in the garden and well agrees with the plants. Sage green tone adds a fresh, rural atmosphere. Bright elements, like red or yellow, can make a fence truly remarkable.

Matching the fence colour with the house paint gives a more harmonious whole look.

New paint can peel, if under it sits an old coat, even if one prepared it carefully. The duration of the painting depends on how well it sticks to the wood itself. One can apply paint with a brush, roller or sprayer.

The roller is the best for home users. If the surface passes twenty square metres, consider use of a paint sprayer. Some paints even work for brick, stone and terracotta garden pots, not only for wood.
